When J.R. Watkins began marketing his natural products directly to consumers in 1868, he started what is now a $75 billion dollar industry known as direct selling.

As he gave other men and women the opportunity to earn a supplemental or full-time income by marketing Watkins products, he also created the powerful business model known today as network marketing.
