I fell in love with Watkins...corny but true...
My Story by: MARY WHEELER In the mid 1990s, I started dreaming about owning an international marketing company. I had developed a great interest in small companies marketing themselves because I saw a lot of great companies under performing. It seemed mainly due to lack of marketing themselves.
I basically "hung out my shingle" as a freelance marketing representative. I did everything from writing newspaper profiles to marketing condos to raising money for sports teams. I hoped to one day find a product I could market for myself.
Well, one day came, and I found pre-paid calling cards - which were perfect because I was right in the middle of a fundraising project to send a Manitoba team to the Indigenous Games. The participants were spread throughout the province so fund raisers like bingo, bake sales etc. were difficult logistically.
Unfortunately, the company behind the cards went out of business. But by this time I was in love with the concept of Network Marketing. I love the opportunity it gives the "little guy" to build to whatever she/he can visualize.
I had been buying Watkins products for several years from a friend, Sheila Riendeau. I wasn’t aware that Watkins was a Network Marketing company, and even if I had been aware, I sure didn’t want to sell shampoo door to door. That was my impression (in my ignorance).
My whole outlook changed when I spent an afternoon talking with Carol Morris, who was a Silver Executive with our company. Now, she is a dynamic woman, with lots of enthusiasm and natural talents, but I looked at her life and what she had achieved and believed that I could do it, too.
So I started slowly building a customer base with Watkins and finding a few other people to work with me.
One day I was selling products to some Americans through leads that Watkins supplies their representatives. It suddenly dawned on me that on that day, I had achieved my original goal of having an international marketing company.
