My Watkins Story
by: Patti J Thompson I am a native Montanan, who loves to cook and barbecue. Watkins are THE spice products of choice for all our needs in the kitchen and at the barbecue. Natural, made in America, and good tastin'! What more could one want! Why I Signed Up With Watkins Mom always used Watkins Double-Strength Vanilla in all her Christmas baking. She loved baking and cooking all year, but Christmas was her forte, and the biggest baking season of the year. Mom and I would start baking in September and not finish until the first week in December. This meant that the baked good would need to be frozen for up to three months! We got into the “Christmas Stretch” of 1997 with everyone cheery and happy.
We looked in the pantry, and there was no Watkins vanilla! Unable to find a Watkins associate at the time, Mom went to the grocery and picked up a well-known brand of vanilla. We were in such a rush, we did not consider that this brand was not “bake-proof” or “freeze-proof” like our trusty Watkins vanilla was!
The time came to showcase all the cookies and breads! The table was set with colorful sugar cookies, Swedish Spritz, strawberry bread, candy cane breads, and so much more! Our memories of the wonderful vanilla and almond flavors of those cookies flowed to our taste buds like a waterfall. It all came crashing down when the aftertaste of substandard vanilla hit our palates! Not that the cookies were bad, we still enjoyed them, they just were not up the standards she had gotten us used to! We were all still very thankful for all the work and creativity she put forth that season. All she said was, “We have got to find some Watkins vanilla and almond extract!”
The following spring when Mom and I were discussing the baking we would be doing in September, I decided to find out about becoming an associate. My only goal at that time was to make sure Mom and my family had access to that precious vanilla! We all soon found out though, that Watkins is WAY more than vanilla! We have been delighting in all of their products ever since that day I signed up.
Mom has since gone to heaven, but thanks to her, I am still with Watkins and my family continues to have excellent access to those most precious extracts. |
